Clinton Promises Not To Run Private E-mail Server If Elected President

It might not have the ring of "Read my lips: No new taxes," but Hillary Clinton is promising not to set up any new pri- vate e-mail servers if she's elected president.
Clinton's use of a private e-mail system while US secretary of state was revealed this year, caus- ing controversy for the former First Lady and US senator as she seeks the Democratic presiden- tial nomination. In an interview with The Des Moines Register editorial board yesterday, an edi- tor asked Clinton how she would promote transparency if elected president "in light of your private e-mail server."
"Well, you can count on me not to have a private e-mail server," Clinton said, drawing laughs from editors. In addition, Clinton said she'd like to
have technology experts examine how government agencies can share more informa- tion with the public.
"The explosion of infor- mation is just over- whelming, and the gov- ernment is woefully behind technically," she said. "It’s really hard when you are running a government in 2015 that is not yet in the 21st century."
The White House should form "a deep partnership for a couple of years with the technol- ogy experts and really go agency by agency trying to figure out how to make them more effi- cient, more transparent," Clinton said.
Clinton has previously called her use of private e-mail as Secretary of State a
"mistake." Clinton's use of private e-mail was dis-
covered when State Department officials were responding to con- gressional document requests related to the 2012 Benghazi attack and realized they had "relatively few e-mail records from former Secretary Clinton," a department spokesper- son told The Washington
Post.
The FBI has recovered personal and work-relat- ed e-mails that Clinton said she deleted, as it continues its investiga- tion into "how and why classified information ended up on Clinton’s server,"
