Arkansas Family Creates
HangingBlanket For
Pandemic-friendly Hugs
By Ben Hooper
April 24 (UPI) -
- An Arkansas family is going viral after taking to social media to show off their invention: a "plastic hug blan- ket" to allow for social distancing- compliant embraces.
Paul Ayoub of Conway said the "plastic hug blan- ket" was concoct- ed by his wife, Katie, to allow the family to meet and
embrace a new arrival.
"It was my wife's idea that I didn't support in the beginning, it was just a crazy idea," Ayoub told KTHV-TV. "It all spawned from the fact that my sister-in-law Kristie is having my niece, Mariah."
The blanket, which hangs like a curtain in the Ayoub family's front doorway, was constructed
from items including a show- er curtain, tape and hot glue. It includes arm holes with sleeves to allow for a full hug through the pro- tective barrier.
"My wife bought jumbo size bags, gallon size bags, and those are the arm holes," Ayoub said.
Ayoub posted a video of his fami- ly testing out the plastic hug blan- ket on TikTok, where it quickly went viral with millions of views.
"It exploded and I got an 'I told you' so from my wife. Rightfully so, she was like, 'I just made you TikTok famous,'" Ayoub said. "I think peo- ple are missing things that we take for granted, like little things like a hug. In a time where things seem helpless and scary, people gravitated towards it."
Reporter Caught Not Wearing Pants During Live Broadcast
By Ben Hooper
April 28 (UPI) -
- An ABC News reporter commit- ted a classic work-from-home faux pas when he was caught not wearing pants while delivering a report on live TV.
Will Reeve, son of late actor Christopher Reeve, appeared Tuesday morning on Good Morning
America to deliv- er a report about pharmacies using drones to deliver drugs to patients.
At the end of the segment, the chryon at the bot- tom of the screen disappeared, revealing Reeve was only fully dressed on his top half.
Reeve, who oper- ated his own camera while
working from home, later clari- fied on Twitter that the segment did not offer a glimpse of his underwear, but rather a skimpy pair of workout shorts for the exercise he had been planning to do after his seg- ment ended.
"Hope everyone got a much need- ed laugh," he tweeted.
