“The only thing that is constant is change”
I’VE BEEN TALKING to quite a few builders over the last couple of weeks.
They’re a breed apart, as most of you will already know.
One thing that’s on the minds of the builders that I’ve spoken to recently is how far the Government may – or may not – go with its plans for significant changes to the current building regulations.
Will any of the 470-odd submissions actually make a difference, asks one builder? “The problem is it depends on what the
officials in MBIE put up to the Minister and then on what the Minister decides is politically correct to go forward with.
“So it’s not what we would want and how we want to see it, it’s what the politicians are going to decide for us.”
Also on the minds of builders I’ve had a yarn or two with recently is how they’re perceived.
Says another builder: “Construction is not a great word in the banking industry at the moment.
“There is a lot of risk is what they perceive and obviously larger companies like Ebert going into receivership has really put a fair bit of fear through the market.”
You can find out more about what some
of the key builders think starting in our annual Trade Focus on page 18...
I’d also like to remind you all again about the new Digital Edition of NZ Hardware Journal.
Each month, as soon as the print version hits our readers’ desks we will also publish a Digital Edition which can be downloaded and forwarded.
Our Digital Edition mirrors the print version you’re probably reading right now, with the added facility of clickable email addresses and URLs.
They’re not destined to replace our print editions any time by the way.
What they can help NZ Hardware Journal achieve is greater reach, a wider range of readers without cutting down more trees or incurring extra and ever more expensive postage charges.
You can find all the latest Digital Editions using the following URL:
www.hardwarejournal.co.nz/ categories/digital-editions/
If you have any comments or thoughts about our Digital Editions, I’d love to hear them.
And, as a parting reminder, with the announcement of the first Semi-Finalists and (soon) Finalists, tickets to the 2019 Hardware Awards (3 October at the Cordis Auckland) are selling fast, so don’t leave it too late to book your seat or table at the industry event of the year.
Tickets can be purchased online (thanks to those who have booked already!), but be in quick as numbers are limited!
