• Rest of North Island: 5,705 (+1.7%). • Canterbury: 5,198 (+12%).
• Rest of South Island: 3,607 (+6.2%).
While there is talk of housing oversupply in Christchurch, Auckland welcomed a new high in the August 2019 year of 3,789 townhouses, flats & units, +22% on the August 2018 year and around a quarter of all residential consents in the Auckland region.
In terms of non-residential, the building types with the highest consent values for YTD August 2019 were:
• Education: $1.1 billion (+0.5%).
• Shops, restaurants & bars: $1.1 billion
(+11%).
• Social, cultural & religious: $1 billion
(+56%).
Looking ahead, consent numbers for September 2019 were to be released on 31 October with data for the value of building work put in place for the September 2019 quarter scheduled for 5 December.
