       Celebrating Landscapes of Distinction
THIS YEAR’S REGISTERED
Master Landscapers’ Landscapes of Distinction Awards were held last month, showcasing the very best in professional landscaping, from landscape construction, design, and maintenance in the residential and commercial sectors.
This year’s Supreme Winner was the Bob’s Cove Retreat project by Green Therapy from Christchurch.
“Sculpted nature at its finest!” said the judges, who also awarded medals in the Landscape Horticulture and Revegetation & Planting categories to the project overlooking Lake Wakatipu.
Perched on a sloping site with variable soil types, shifting natural springs and unpredictable winds, the site presented unique design challenges and required strategies such as planting natives grown from eco sourced seeds and the utilization of native mulch, sourced from nearby wind felled trees.
Among the other winners was this year’s People’s Choice Award which went to Onlandscapes, also from Christchurch, for their Rugby Street project, “a serene and private garden that could be enjoyed both day and night.”
A complete makeover left only a large macrocarpa tree and existing hedging and brought an exposed concrete nib wall, coloured acid-etched concrete paths and steps meeting a macrocarpa boardwalk that gently leads to the rear of

the property.
The Registered Master Landscapers
Awards Gala Dinner was held at the Hilton Hotel in Auckland, on Saturday 27 August, with sponsors including Husqvarna and PlaceMakers.
Prior to this event, 10 top young landscapers competed for the Prebble Seeds Turf World 2022 Young Landscaper of the Year Award at Bark Wholesalers in Papakura, Auckland.
The competition assesses both practical and workplace-based skills, including lawn preparation, planting, paving, small digger operation and more.
After a hectic and exhausting day’s events, it was Guillaume Chabbert of Natural Habitats who took out both the Young Landscaper of the Year title and the award for Outstanding Achievement – Career Development.

OUTDOOR POWER AUTOMATION
Husky expands
what mowbots
can do
YOU MAY WELL have already heard about Husqvarna’s EPOS (Exact
Positioning Operating System) technology for a new series of professional Automower robotic lawn mowers.
The satellite-based technology enables the mowers to work within virtual boundaries, making it perfect for football pitches, golf courses, city parks, company real estates and all other places that deal with changing circumstances and needs, thanks to the absence of physical boundary wires.
A mobile phone and the
Husqvarna EPOS app allow the
setting of virtual boundaries and
work areas for the robotic mower
which uses satellite technology to
deliver centimetre level accuracy.
Combined with the included
reference station this enables the
robotic mower to efficiently mow any grass area.
In related news, Husky in the US, with its EPOS-armed Automower and CEORA robotic mowers, also recently partnered up with aerial robotics specialist GreenSight and its TurfCloud drone-based golf course management system to help turf managers improve their quality of turf care, use less natural resources, and greatly reduce costs in their overall management practices.
Integrating Husqvarna’s robotic mowers into the TurfCloud golf course management system brings together all of the turf manager’s drone imagery, sensor data, agronomic tools, labour, and robotics planning systems into a single “integrated digital command centre”.
