More fresh thinking from IKEA
IKEA STATES IT is “committed to being a fully circular business by 2030.
“To reach this goal, we create products that can be used and re-used for many years to come, right up until it’s time to recycle them and start again.”
In this light, following an initial postponement due to the pandemic, the retailer has now made its previously signalled furniture Buy Back scheme live in the UK.
Consumers go online and fill out an estimator form to get a quote on their old IKEA furniture.
Then they bring their furniture, fully assembled, to the nearest IKEA store where its condition is checked, and a final valuation confirmed.
This valuation be as much as 50% of the original value for which the consumer receives an IKEA refund card.
Presumably following some cleaning and or light refurbishment, the furniture will then be resold by the retailer at
its Circular Hubs (previously Bargain Corners) at “even more affordable prices”.
Also new from IKEA and also with a somewhat sustainable intent, this
year’s Catalog, normally a substantial number of pages, has been tuned into an audiobook.
The 70th Catalog is now available free of charge through Spotify, YouTube and Audiobooks.com as “an inspirational handbook full of budget-friendly tips, hands-on ideas, new exciting products and familiar favorites”.
“We know that by now, you’ve probably binged through every possible podcast,
audiobook and ‘Best of 2020’ playlist there is, so maybe you could use some new soothing sounds to put on while we all continue for normal life to get back to normal,” says the narrator.
Each audio chapter talks about a different furnished home that’s included in the print catalogue, as well as offering how-to tips on furnishings and decorating.
