Strong interest in
Building Code energy
efficiency changes
INTEREST IN THE latest proposed Building Code changes is high, with the Building Performance team having released some initial thoughts around feedback.
This year’s consultation on the Building Code proposed options to make it easier and more efficient for people to heat and cool their homes.
More than 700 submissions were submitted for this year’s Building Code update, totalling 3,000 responses and 600+ pages of feedback, more than the previous five years of Building Code consultation responses combined.
Although feedback typically comes from the construction sector, as much as 36% of the latest responses came direct from building owners, occupants, and renters, followed
by designers or engineers (17%) and building product manufacturers (8%).
Energy efficiency for housing and small buildings accounted for the vast majority of submissions (684), followed by submissions around the proposals for energy efficiency for large buildings (207).
Many submitters also requested additional information about how this Building Code update would work alongside the changes proposed within MBIE’s long term Building for Climate Change Programme.
Following a review of the feedback, MBIE says outcomes will be published in October and supporting information will be shared from November this year.
