Fifth Tool Kit Depot opens in SA
Three industry leading trade shows will be held at the same time in Las Vegas in 2023.
The National Hardware Show (NHS), the NAHB International Builders’ Show (IBS – said to be the world’s largest annual residential construction show) and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) will all take place concurrently in Las Vegas over 31 January-2 February 2023.
“We are absolutely thrilled that the National Hardware Show will be in Las Vegas during the same time that Design & Construction Week takes place,” says Jerry Howard, CEO of the National Association of Home Builders.
“NHS creates synergy with the International Builders’ Show and NKBA’s Kitchen and Bath Show. Co-locating NHS with IBS and KBIS will allow attendees
to explore additional products and opportunities to grow their businesses and maintain a competitive edge in the market.”
“We think having the National Hardware Show co-locate with us in Las Vegas next year is a great opportunity to expand Design & Construction Week,” says Bill Darcy, CEO of the NKBA.
“Our customers benefit from more value and opportunity during their time in Las Vegas by aligning with two other industry leading events. NHS, IBS & KBIS events have complementary product offerings that will broaden buying and selling opportunities,” said Beth Casson, NHS Event Vice President.
The 2022 NHS takes place over 5-7 April this year, the IBS and KBIS were both held over late January-early February.

HAVING LAUNCHED THE Tool Kit Depot brand in September last year and opened the first four stores in Western Australia before Christmas, Bunnings says there will be a further three stores opening in the first half of 2021.
The first of these sees the new tradie brand moving outside of WA for the first time, with February seeing the Adelaide Tools branch in Lonsdale South Australia (25km from central Adelaide) transformed into the latest Tool Kit Depot.
Lonsdale adds to the four WA stores in Mandurah, Malaga, Rockingham, and Belmont.
To recap, Tool Kit Depot is the new trading name for Adelaide Tools which Wesfarmers acquired in April 2020,
to “deepen its relationships with trade customers”.
Bunnings Group opened the first Tool Kit Depot store in Belmont, carrying 10,000+ products across power tools, outdoor power equipment, hand tools, storage, workwear, welding equipment, construction, and safety equipment.
We are still expecting news of Tool Kit Depot coming to New Zealand in due course.

Who will pick up Jaycar?
SPECULATION CONTINUES AROUND which of the major Australian retail groups will pick up the Jaycar electronics retailing and distribution business which is for sale following the death of founder and owner Gary Johnston.
Having passed its 40th anniversary last year, Jaycar has some 140 Jaycar and Road Tech Marine stores and a growing e-commerce business across both Australia and New Zealand, with sales of AU$315 million sales and an AU$172.9 million GP to boot.
It’s reported that several Australian retail groups and investment groups, are believed to be looking hard at Jaycar, including Wesfarmers, Harvey Norman, and JB Hi-Fi.
According to some accounts Wesfarmers is considering buying Jaycar as a “plug-in business” for Bunnings which has been expanding into home automation and own brand consumer electronics.
Barrenjoey Capital Partners is working on the sale.
