The sun’ll come out tomorrow...
LET’S NOT BEAT around the bush. Whatever your profession or role,
working for a living certainly isn’t getting any easier.
If you believe the statistics, reverting to more restrictive Alert Levels since the last magazine came out has left another dent in the already somewhat battered building industry
Indeed in this respect Stats NZ recently felt the need to report on the time and cost e ects of the pandemic on the building industry.
Following the Alert Level 4 lockdown, home builders told Stats NZ that they were expecting median delays of 33 working days as a result of COVID-19 (and other factors, including labour and materials), while non- residential projects were estimated to extend out by almost a month.
All of which will inevitably have a knock-on e ect down the line.
en there is the unknown e ect of the Government wage subsidies ending, the usual e ect of Christmas on credit and payments...
Not wishing to forecast hell in a handbasket, caution will be many businesses’ remedy for all this uncertainty.
Indeed, in our regular Statswatch column (see page 14), CreditWorks’ Alan Johnston concludes: “While clearly, no-one knows
what the future holds in this uncharted, post-Covid world, I believe we need to
be very careful when it comes to taking lending risks in the near future, as although it appears solid, the ice could be very thin in some places.”
