  And they’re off!
IT’S STILL EARLY days for the 2019 Hardware Awards programme and already there’s a groundswell of interest and enquiry, but we want more.
If you think you have what it takes, or that someone else deserves to have their achievements recognised, do the right thing and nominate someone now.
Having said this, DON’T PANIC – there is still time to actually enter...
Retailer, Young Retailer, Supplier and Trade Account Managers of the Year – Nominations close 14 June and entries close 12 July.
Retail and Trade Stores of the Year, Suppliers of the Year – Nominations close 14 June.
Other key dates include the Gala Dinner on Thursday 3 October at the Cordis (previously known as the Langham) in Auckland.
Tickets can be purchased online (thanks to those who have booked already!), but be in quick as numbers are limited and last year we sold out well in advance!
AROUND THE TRAPS...
I was intrigued and somewhat taken aback to see how much media and
consumer interest has been generated around Bunnings’ New Zealand-only “flat pack homes” initiative.
Dubbed the Clever Living range, it’s about offering a degree of pre-fabrication as part of delivering an affordable, almost- turnkey home straight to site.
Although it crept onto the market without much fanfare last year, just recently there’s been a lot of chatter about Clever Living, with even The Guardian newspaper in the UK picking up on the buzz.
And, when the Australian media also took notice, they were quick to point out, with just a hint of envy perhaps, that the concept hasn’t crossed the Tasman. Yet.
The other noteworthy item of discussion in the last few weeks has been the release of the Deloitte report on the cost of home construction.
Aiming (in part at least) to counter those pundits making hay about how much more expensive it is to build a home in New Zealand than in Australia, it does come across as slightly defensive in tone but it’s a worthwhile document nonetheless.
See page 6 for more on this report which, I hope, may provide a suitable topic for discussion at the second annual KiwiBuild Summit, which takes place on 24 June as part of the BuildNZ show.
Given that Duncan Garner is to be chairing the event, hopefully there will be some lively discussion around the contents of the Fletcher Building- commissioned report...
