Fieldays fine as Finalist
Danger, unsecured objects!
A COLLISION IN Hamilton in
early February between two vans has prompted Waikato police to warn tradies of all persuasions that unsecured tools and cargo can become deadly missiles in an accident.
The van driver later told The New Zealand Herald that several unsecured tools had “gone rogue” and flown out the window.
However they could easily have injured the driver and construction safety training organisation Site Safe says there are several ways to minimise the risk of
such things happening.
Keeping objects secure is one, keeping
tools and materials separated from people via a cargo barrier that meets the NZS4034 Standard is another.
Properly fitted barriers, as well as protecting people from fast-moving objects, may also offer extra protection if the vehicle rolls.
Site Safe also recommends that liquids are securely stowed in correct bottle containers and where possible, fuel should be in a separate trailer.
