“A born retailer, a problem solver”, “his enthusiasm for his chosen career is infectious!” said the judges about Anton Hawkey.
For his part, the 26-year-old Operations & Garden Centre Manager describes 2020 as “a fantastic learning experience” and the Awards as “a great way to cap a year that has certainly thrown many challenges and obstacles.”
Anton’s connection with this high-achieving store started when he worked there after school and he has always strived to be the best he can be. Indeed, his proprietor Murray Smith talks about Anton’s “endless energy”, his “get up & go attitude” and confirms his key role in the store’s success.
Anton’s ambitions for next year include promoting Papanui into the top three garden centres nationally, as well as encouraging team members to take more responsibility for their departments.
