About fluid dynamics...
WHAT IS AND isn’t “essential” in terms of building homes?
Last month, the Government allowed a select band of key Auckland-based manufacturers just enough wiggle room to start making certain building products again and sending them outside of the region.
I think everyone agrees it was great that builders could set to again, insulating, finishing interiors, putting on roofs and enclosing their builds.
What about frame & truss?
Prenail exponents in and immediately around Auckland who I talked to during September and October, some of whom had applied (without success) to be allowed to restart their operations, have been asking just this question.
Most if not all expressed dismay that the basic bones of a house – without which insulation, interior finishing and roofing would not be possible – were not classed “essential” enough to be afforded a tacit go-ahead to restart their businesses.
Is there a need to take more notice of this crucial part of the building supply chain?
These are complex issues, and these are complex, fluid times, but you’ll agree that frame & truss probably does need a higher profile.
2021 HARDWARE AWARDS UPDATE
Talking of this almost constantly changing situation, where whole regions can be locked down overnight thanks to the thoughtlessness of the odd individual,
we too have had to alter plans to fit the changing circumstances.
I alerted everyone to a new date for
the 2021 Hardware Awards in the last magazine, print and digital, through our Hard News e-newsletter, Facebook and on our website.
Almost without exception, everyone got our reasons for doing so, for which thank you.
However, given the ongoing fluidity of the situation, over the last weeks we have been assessing and re-assessing our 8 December date.
We have considered purely practical issues like the fast-reducing availability of venues large enough to hold 400+ guests, what might happen if vaccination levels fail to meet targets and restrictions on gatherings continue plus, as if I needed
to state it, concern for the safety of our guests...
So, yes, we have made the decision to again push the date for the 2021 Hardware Awards further out – to Tuesday 15 February 2022.
Our 2021 Hardware Awards program will therefore continue until that date, giving sponsors additional extra exposure for their support.
It will also give our Finalists extra time to settle heir nerves and polish their presentations...
For everyone who’s already booked tickets, we’ll be in touch soon.
