DWELLING CONSENTS STAY HIGH
Moving from actual to potential building work, consents data from Stats NZ for YTD July 2019 reveal record levels for volume.
For the July month:
• Residential:$1.4billion(+14.9%onJuly
2018).
• Non-residential:$658million(+27.3%). • Total building: $2.0 billion (+18.6%).
For YTD July:
• Residential:$15.2billion(+6.9%on
YTD July 2018).
• Non-residential: $7.6 million (+10.9%). • Totalbuilding:$22.8billion(+8.2%).
In terms of volume, 35,472 dwelling consents were recorded for YTD July 2019 (+8%), the most new homes consented in a year since December 1974 but still some 4,500 below the number recorded in February that year.
Record dwelling consent numbers were set in YTD July 2019 by Auckland and the Waikato while, perhaps surprisingly, Canterbury consents also beat the previous year and returned to the sort
of levels last seen before the rebuild activities began in 2011.
Looking ahead, consent numbers for August 2019 were to be released on 30 September with data for the Value of building work put in place for September 2019 quarter not scheduled until 5 December.
