  For every negative...
THANK YOU TO everyone out there who helped get this magazine together.
Thanks to those who sagely found some dosh to do a little advertising.
Thanks too to those who helped with insights and comments for the articles.
Given how time poor everyone is at the moment, a few minutes on the phone is also currency of a sort.
The last month brought a mixed bag of indicators but for every negative there is a positive.
Spending softened as one poll or another talked of reduced consumer confidence faced with interest rate hikes.
The upside is that intentions to build remain at elevated levels.
April 1st brought with it an increase in the adult minimum wage.
The upside is that more people can afford an improved lifestyle.
The rising cost and reduced availability of key building products is proving hard for merchants, builders and suppliers.
The upside is that these shortfalls are
providing opportunity for some of the less dominant brands.
Net migration has dipped into the negative for the first time in a decade and then there’s MBIE estimating 50,000+ Kiwis will leave the country over the next year to head off on their travels.
The upside is that they’ll be back, better armed than ever to take New Zealand forward.

Last but certainly not least, as I write this, everyone in the NZ Hardware Journal team was anxiously counting down to Wednesday 13 April’s announcement about the next change to the traffic light system.
Would we go to the orange setting and increase the number of people allowed at an indoor event?
Well we did! Nice one, team of 5 million!
And, with 450+ bookings already confirmed for the Hardware Awards, we will see you all on Tuesday 10 May at Cordis Auckland.
Happy Easter!
