“The monthly value of building consents issued in Auckland surpassed $1 billion for the first time ever”
The consent values for YTD September 2020 were as follows:
• Residential:$15.9billion(+2.3%on
YTD September 2019).
• Non-residential:$7.0billion(–7.7%).
• Total:$22.9billion(–1.3%).
YTD September 2020, the non- residential building types with the highest values were:
• Storage:$1.1billion(+16%).
• Education:$1.1billion(–5.8%).
• Offices,administration&public
transport: $958 million (–3.9%).
By volume, 37,725 dwellings were consented in the September 2020 year, +3.5% on YTD September 2019.
Regionally, the biggest gains and losses in the number of new dwellings consented YTD September 2020 (compared with the September 2019 year) were:
• Canterbury:+8.1%.
• Auckland:+5.7%.
• Wellington:+5.4%.
• RestofNorthIsland:+2.7%.
• Waikato:–2.8%.
• RestofSouthIsland:–4.8%.
Interesting aside: although one would have assumed otherwise, it is noteworthy that Stats NZ’s tally of the value of Additions & Alterations for both YTD September 2020 and YTD September 2019 are still in the negative and this despite the September 2020 month showing +8.8% on September 2019.
October’s building consent data is scheduled for release on 3 December, while the September 2020 quarter’s Value of Building Work put in Place will be out on 4 December.
