This was +9.7% on the February 2018 year, thanks mainly to higher density and multi-dwelling activity in the form of townhouses, flats, and units (+30% to 6,615) and apartments (+29% to 4,070). Conversely, consents for standalone houses were relatively flat (+1.7% to 21,420 from the February 2018 year). By region, the numbers of new dwellings consented in the year ended February 2019 were: • Auckland:13,847(+25%). • Waikato:3,862in(+11%). • Wellington:2,763(+14%). • RestofNorthIsland:5,596(–3.4%). • Canterbury:4,864(–2%). • RestofSouthIsland:3,322(–5.9%).
