Residential building consents – Value – Dec 2017 to Nov 2019

ahead, values for the November 2019 month from Stats NZ (www.stats.govt. nz) were in less than robust health, as follows:
• Residential: $1.3 billion (+0.1% on Nov 2018).
• Non-residential:$643million(–22.6%). • Total: $2.0 billion (–8.8%).
In November 2019, 3,204 new dwellings were consented (+2.7% on November 2018 but –6% on October 2019), while consents for YTD November 2019 stayed strongly positive:
• Residential: $15.7 billion (+11.1% on
YTD Nov 2018).
• Non-residential: $7.4 billion (+4.9%). • Total: $23.1 billion (+9.1%).
YTD November 2019, 37,010 new dwellings were consented, +13% on the November 2018 year and the highest annual volume since the mid-1970s.
Interesting to note that, YTD November 2019, Canterbury consented 14%
more new homes than in the previous November year, which, although below the 2014 peak, it is still higher than the level before earthquake rebuild activities.
Consent numbers for December are to be released on 4 February and those for January 2020 on 4 March, while the value of building work put in place for the December 2019 quarter is scheduled for 6 March.
