Residential building consents – Value – May 2017 to Apr 2019

The total value of consents in April 2019 was $2.1 billion, a massive +27.5% on April 2018, comprising:
• Residential:$1.2billion(+5.7%).
• Non-residential:$919million(+73.7%).
In terms of volume, 2,605 new dwellings were consented in April (–4% on April 2018).
Total consents for the year to date April 2019 were worth $22.3 billion (+7.8% on YTD April 2018), comprising:
• Residential:$14.8billion(+6.1%on
YTD April 2018).
• Non-residential:$7.5billion(+11.5%).
The value of social building consents (+44%) was boosted by convention centres in Auckland and Christchurch and Christchurch sports facilities, while work on malls in Auckland boosted shop consents (+28%) and car park buildings and warehouses drove consents for storage buildings.
However, consents for office buildings fell 8.2%, reflecting a fall in activity from the highs of the Christchurch rebuild, says Stats NZ.
In the year ended April 2019, 34,392 new dwellings were consented, +7.4% on the April 2018 year.
