performance vacuums
Meeting WorkSafe New Zealand guidelines, Shop-Vac’s affordable new range is led by the L Class wet-and-dry vacuums that trap over 99% of the dust generated when connected to a power tool. The Shop-Vac Pro 20L, 40L, and 60L vacuum cleaners all feature
a blower port that turns a vacuum into a powerful blower, plus their wet/dry cleaning power takes care of tough clean-up jobs. Shop-Vac Pros have power tool plug-in capacity for dustless drilling, sanding, and grinding, plus the auto start/stop function works with compatible power tools. These models are bagless but come with an optional collection bag, as well as a 2.4m x 32mm lock-on hose, two Posi-Lock metal wands, dual-surface nozzle, wet/dry nozzle, round brush, crevice tool, gulper nozzle, HEPA cartridge filter, and a tool adaptor.

 Nail-busting is not a problem
The new Smart Purple series is a premium-quality set of
blades that promises greater longevity when cutting through tough wood and nails. It’s a single blade type that covers most applications and is available in different widths and in both Universal and Starlock fitting types. So the age of a tradesperson’s tools won’t limit their choice of blades.
The Nail Buster Extreme has consistently been Smart Tool Group’s most popular general-purpose blade and the Purple series is basically a longer-lasting version in more sizes and fittings. It complements the Nail Buster range, catering for people who are prepared to pay 15% more for something more durable.

merchants, it’s a little bit difficult, we’ve been trying very hard with Mitre 10, but we’ve had more success with specialised trade shops, anything from engineering to tyre shops to flooring outlets.”
Among the bigger players, Robert Bosch Sales Director, Troy Scragg, reports “a continual expansion of accessories”, and that “quality is the driver”.
Accessories is a core Bosch range, with the brand introducing some 300 new SKUs to the market last year and expecting to see a similar volume of new and updated SKUs in 2020.
Down in Christchurch, Phil Holer, MD of Holer Diamond Tools, says his business is solid, if not buoyant, from infrastructure and high-rise construction projects. “Our main market is business to business rather than trade, and it’s very much running on its own.”
However the company is likely to take on a different complexion in 2021, with the recent appointment of a Marketing Manager to be followed by a dedicated Trade Manager.
Explains Phil Holer: “We’re currently very good with the professional users and will expand into the trade market when we have the personnel for it. That’s something you need to do properly rather than taking a shotgun approach.”
Returning to the capital, Tooline GM, Martin Toon, says all’s well in a highly competitive engineering industry in which angle grinders remain his company’s core power tool.
He says a generally positive outlook is informing product expansion plans in the near-term, however blade choice is best left to the market to decide.
Keep the power, lose the cord
The new 18V-216 Mitre Saw from Bosch delivers cordless flexibility with corded power. This 18V biturbo brushless tool offers exceptionally strong performance equal to corded 1600W mitre saws while providing completely cordless manoeuvrability and outstanding compactness. Powered by just one strong ProCORE18V battery (tool is compatible with all Bosch Professional batteries but the ProCORE range is recommended), this mitre saw is extremely lightweight, and an ergonomic design helps ensure optimal mobility. With a cutting depth of 70mm, the 18V-216 suits a wide range of professional applications.
