How was she not screaming?
Taking a small peek, all I saw was her hand covering her open mouth with her eyes widened. “Cherry, when did this happen?”
“I have no idea.” I buried my face in the blanket once again.
“Give me a moment.”
Everything went quiet again as we were both hesitant to speak, until I felt a hand resting on my bur- ied head tenderly.
“It’s okay, I’ve thought about it. I’ll let you stay here and protect you.”
“Aren’t you going to abandon m-”
“I won’t. I love you, Cherry, no matter what. I’m going to take good care of you.”
I twirled my head away from the blanket to see her smile, which was more genuine than ever, like a mother smiling to her child. She moved her hand to stroke my face and rested her forehead against mine.
That was when I had made my decision: Abandoning my career and my boyfriend to be with the person I adore with all my heart.

From that day on, she had been the only one who understood me. Every morning, she would buy
more leaves for me and fed me with homemade honey made from nectars. We continued our deep conversations every night, revealing our deepest desires.
As much as I missed the spotlight, the co-actors, and the applause from the audience members, deep inside, I knew it wouldn’t happen again. People would see me as a nightmare, a nuisance to the soci- ety!
However, Angela was always there for me, comforting me who was distressed. Even when I hid my- self in a cocoon, she would always come by and pay a visit. I could never forget the moment when
I turned into a flying creature with majestic, ruby and black wings, she was in complete awe and uttered the following words:
I’ve never seen such beauty in my life!
I remained by her side till her hair turned white, her skin creased, her voice softened. After dialing the ambulance to get her to a hospital, I always flew by her side, until she inhaled for the very last time.
