Overcoming irrational “Stinky Thinking” also necessitates incorporating an effective repertory of Thumbs up behaviors. When we ask, “What would he have done because of this (Good) thinking,” we want a reasonable and effective behavioral response. An example of that type of response, “He could have thanked them for letting him try shooting the arrows .” This may seem very alien to some children but it is the type of “social lubricant” that allows our society and its individuals to succeed.
1. When the Prince shot poorly, what Good Thinking could he have told himself?
I have never practiced shooting so it is normal to shoot poorly. I should not get upset and should practice more.
2. What would have been his emotions?
Disappointed that he shot poorly but motivated to try harder.
3. What would he have done because of this thinking?
Gone back to the castle and practice shooting arrows.
4. When you make demands of others, like the Prince did, how does that make them feel?Angry or afraid.
5. If you act like the Prince, will others want to be around you?
No, they will find you annoying and pushy.
