Page 18 - Tree of Happiness
P. 18
Very interesting. This Wizard tells the Princess that she will never be happy or smart or have friends. And what does she do? Everything she could to prove him right. What do you think? Was his prediction or her behavior that caused this lack of friends, poor school performance and unhappiness? If you have been paying attention to my stories, I bet you know the answer.
In our story, the Wizard is a real person. We don’t know why he told her that she would always be unhappy. We don’t know if he was trying to be mean or really believed it himself. All we do know is that what he told her was not based on reality.
In your world, you can be your own wizard. You can tell yourself things that are not true such as, “I’m too dumb to learn math.” “Nobody likes me.” “All my teachers are mean.” And if you believe these Personal Wizard Statements, you will feel and act badly. Now, let’s look at our Princess and her “Wizard Statements.”
1. The Wizard told the Princes she could never be smart or loved because she was born under the wrong “Stars,” what did she start telling herself?
2. When she thought that way, how did she feel?
3. How did she act?
4. Did the Wizard really know if she would be happy or smart?
5. Does anyone know if you will be happy, smart or successful? Who will determine this?
