“That is exactly right,” said Fraid and he looked to the few young owls who were still in the low branches. “You see, it is just like I told you. Smartest and the other adult owls don’t want us to have any fun and they want us to do things their way, not the way we want to do them.”
Then the fox said, “Why don’t all of you jump down to the ground where it is safe and I will tell you more about how those grown-up owls are going to trick you.”
Smartest overheard this and shouted, “Nooo, everyone fly away!” All the owls with Smartest, and even those with Fraid, got caught up in the excitement and flew away... all except Fraid. He looked up at them flying away and said “Look how stupid, scared of a little dog” and he jumped down to the ground.
Dear reader, we must leave this story now. Unfortunately, Fraid had no more lessons to learn.
