1940: Ed was a student at Central Normal College, in Danville, Indiana
 Evening News November 15, 1940
1941: Ed registered for the draft on July 1, 1941. He was 21 years old, lived in Sellersburg and worked as a laborer at Louisville Cement Company in Speed.
On November 8, 1941, a 21-year-old Ed married 16-year-old Goldie Mae Warman, born April 5, 1924, one of 6 children of Buford Nelson Warman and Alice VanCampen. After Uncle Ed joined the Marine Corps, Aunt Goldie lived with Aunt Charlotte for a time.
1942: You can’t talk about Uncle Ed’s time in the Marine Corps without talking about Daddy at the same time, so I am including parts that include Daddy and Uncle George in this portion of the history. Uncle Ed and Daddy joined the US Marine Corps on August 21, 1942. Their Serial Numbers: Daddy 431451 and Uncle Ed 431453. When you look at their military records, they were side-by-side -- promoted at the same time and held the same rank designation (except for on 1 occasion Daddy must have gotten “busted” for something because he was demoted but then shortly reinstated) Uncle George quit high school, lied about his age and joined the Navy.
