P. 26
The reason he was smart was because he evaluated what needed to be done and did it. In the case of the jewel thief, what needed to be done was... Nothing. What the dog would not have done was something stupid, just because others expected it of him. But he also would not be controlled by his own fear or anger.
Too often, you do or fail to do something because you have let your “Stinky Thinking” cause you to become angry or afraid. You tell yourself things like “But if I don’t do it everyone will think I am a coward. I know that if I get caught I will get in big trouble but if I don’t do it my friends will laugh at me and I can’t stand that to happen.”
With that type of “Stinky Thinking,” you would do whatever your “friends” want you to do, regardless of the consequences. And that, dear reader is the difference between you and the Too Smart Dog.
“Too Smart” would have told himself, “They may all want me to do this but it is stupid. Nothing good is going to happen if I do it and I could get into a lot of trouble. Real friends would not ask me to take such a chance. I think I can do without them as friends.”
