Gary Graham
I had no idea how he knew I had been injured, or how he knew I was even home. All I knew was, this was a kind and thoughtful gesture at a moment when I really needed one. And I never forgot it. Whenever I think of Gary, the first image that comes to mind is him standing on my front porch, holding up an evergreen tree and smiling. And I always knew that if I ever found a way to do something for him in return, I would not hesitate for a second.
Flash forward many years: my phone rings and it’s Gary, asking if I’d be willing to assist him in preparing his book for publishing (because I’ve had a great deal of experience with writing and editing) – and I didn’t hesitate for even a second. And it’s while working on this project that I came to learn about his own experiences and why he’d understand – more than anyone else I can think of – what it was like for me to be injured and off the road and unable to work...and why he’d show up at my door, saying, “I thought you might like to have a Christmas tree.”
“Brothers of the Road” look out for each other. And this means something to me. ~ Tony Shaffer
Gary Graham is longest person I have known in my life except for a few cousins and only family, my sister. We have been “Brothers” for over 55-Years. As Gary would say, “Even if you say that fast, it is still a lot of years.” I am proud of him for managing to write this book and hope you enjoy reading it. “Hey, we lived it!”
