Gary Graham
luck would have it, a lady who worked two doors down said her son, Scott Stryker, could play the drums and boy, could he. We put it all together and away we went. As time went by, everyone slowly dropped out except for Bob and me.
Bob was there through thick and thin and we enjoyed a lot of successes together, but while we were in Las Vegas he was suddenly drafted and sent to Vietnam. I can’t begin to say how much he was missed. Always consistent and an active bass player, Bob kept it all in place. His playing kept everything tight and other bands wanted him because of his ability to keep solid timing with the drummer, which is a must. Bob is my friend and has always been there for me. We still talk often and get together to go to the Lake of the Ozarks for dinner. I just wish once in a while he would pay the check.
Ed is a multi-talented guy who played a pretty good keyboard with The Spartans. Ed’s brother Gary was a talented guitar player and singer and we all went together to California. However, the longer we were together, the more I realized that Gary was in a struggle to be in charge of the band and I was stubborn enough to take issue with him because I had brought us this far and thought, where in the hell were you when we started this venture? I believe to this day Ed wasn’t being paid enough as he had become both a musician and referee and that’s not what he signed up for. Somehow, he was able to keep us from killing each other although Gary threw a jar of mayonnaise at me one night that barely missed. Ed brokered a peace deal with us and we stayed friends until Gary and Ed went to Vietnam. Sadly, Gary didn’t make it back.
