It seems that they had noticed a bobcat hanging around and they were concerned about their young. When the adults are out hunting at night, the bobcat could sneak in and climb their trees.
They wanted someone to stay home and watch out for the bobcat.
This would mean that the one that stayed would miss the hunt. No one wanted to miss the hunt and they were trying to decide who would stay.
They fussed and argued and it went on and on. Then Ollie flew forward and said, I’ll stay and stand guard.
