The purpose of this story is to help you understand that you must be willing to do difficult tasks to succeed in school and life. In addition, the story addresses the fact that you must be willing to accept guidance from others and that annoying or threatening others to get what you want is not acceptable. Finally, you must learn that success at doing anything comes gradually and requires effort.
In the Coping Skills lessons, you are being taught that your THINKING controls your emotions and behaviors. You must develop an awareness of what you are THINKING in a particular situation to understand why you FEEL and BEHAVE as you do in that situation.
Developing an awareness of your Self-Messages is difficult and changing them if they are wrong (Stinky,) is even more difficult. You will need help and encouragement to develop the skill of:
Knowing what you are thinking
Evaluating its accuracy
Selecting a more rational alternative thought and Accepting the consequences of your more rational alternative.
