As your neighborhood Realtor, I like to share helpful information should you be planning to buy or sell a home. If you are thinking about listing your home this Spring, here is checklist just for you.
Your kitchen should be perfect because so many moments of your life happen here. Good news! You don’t need to be an architect or interior decorator to create the kitchen of your dreams. With a little imagination and elbow grease, you can transform this space. Here are five easy tips for creating the perfect kitchen.
ADD A FUN MESSAGE CENTER: Have you ever left a note on the fridge only for it to fall off and disappear with its message? Never risk important info getting lost again by installing a message board in your kitchen. Find a nice patch of empty wall space that is readily visible and hang a whiteboard, bulletin board or chalkboard. A calendar or even a simple notepad would work as well as long as it’s easy to use and has plenty of writing instruments at hand.
GIVE YOUR KITCHEN A THEME: Even if you have an open floor plan, you can still decorate your kitchen without disrupting the design of surrounding rooms. There is plenty of cute yet subtle décor that you can tastefully place around the kitchen. A farmhouse theme is quite fitting. You could also spruce the space up in a natural way with earthy tones and a few small potted plants.
ADD AN ISLAND: If you’re remodeling and have the space available, consider installing a kitchen island. Although you can design it with an extra sink, stovetop or oven, you can also move in a more minimalistic direction and install base cabinets in the center of the kitchen. This gives your family extra room to cook, eat and work while increasing your storage and adding definition to the space.
You don’t need to remodel to refresh your kitchen. Bring in some color in a creative yet contained way by coloring blocking. Choose a contrasting color for the top cabinetry row that complements your lower cabinet color. Two-toned spaces add depth and visual appeal. Adding a fun color like dark green, sky blue or a pale purple opens up opportunities for you to accessorize the rest of your kitchen with splashes of color.
