Page 20 - SB-Polly Perfect
P. 20
Polly was able to teach us a lot about needing to be “perfect.” I think that the most important contest was the one when they selected the parrot who was the “most appealing.” Naturally, Polly thought that she would win the contest. And everyone knew what would happen if Polly did not win the contest: “There will be some squawking if she does not win.”
You will recall that Polly did not win the contest. Penny Parrot won the contest and won it for some very interesting and important reasons
I think that it is important to repeat what the judge of the contest told Polly when she complained that she should have won “most appealing” because she was prettier than Penny.
“Polly, you may be right that you are more attractive then Penny but the contest is for the ‘most appealing’. Penny is considerate and helpful. She does what she needs to do to take care of herself but does not mind helping others. She learns her lessons but does not brag about how smart she is. She helps others learn from their mistakes and does not tattle on others. Those are some of the reasons she was voted the ‘most appealing’ parrot.”
