Sometimes qualities that are positive, such as being smart, cute or athletic can become negatives because of your thinking. You may see yourself as "too smart" to have to study for a test and thus end up failing it. You may be "too cute" and others will treat you nicely without you ever having to learn how to treat others nicely. You may be "too athletic" and always make the team but you never learn how to be a team player.
These were the problems of the Gulls and Owls. The Gulls thought that they were too pretty to patrol the shore and eat the leftovers of others who were not nearly as pretty as themselves and even though the gulls did what the Congress instructed them to do, they are still angry about it even to this day.
The owls thought that they were too smart to have to live
and hunt in the dark. They wanted everyone to know that they were smarter than everyone else. However, just being smart is not enough. The members of the Congress told them,
“Your smartness has not become wisdom and the night will be your home.”
Being smart without being kind or generous leads to loneliness.
