In that example, the anxiety and frustration of the difficult math problems become the teacher’s fault because of your Too belief. The Too belief(s) also gives you permission not try and do the work. By changing the Too Belief to something more rational, you realize that although these problems are difficult, you are not the only one having to do them. And even though you may have to work hard and it will take some time, you are responsible to deal with them. It is not your teacher who must change.
In the story, the Birds had the help of a Congress to decide how to deal with the changes in their environment. The decisions of those in the Congress were based on Good Thinking and although not universally accepted, made good sense. It is the rare individual who seeks out others who exhibit Good Thinking skills to use as their personal Congress, to help with difficult decisions.
The second part of the Exercise is to choose a Congress of, “classmates, friends, relatives and adults” who will help counsel you on difficult situations. Wouldn’t it be nice if you had five trusted advisors who would always be honest with you and use their Good Thinking to help guide you through life’s difficulties
and changes?
Reward behaviors associated with accepting and doing the difficult tasks associated with school and childhood. Have an awareness of when a child, who has Too Beliefs in some area makes an attempt to challenge and overcome them. Reinforce their effort to develop Good Thinking habits to replace their typical Too Stinky Thinking.
