EDWARD EARL CRAIG – Born November 20, 1919 – Died April 9, 1980 (College Education) Uncle Ed was born at 8:40 PM. Marshall was 37 and Jean was 31. Marshall was employed as a mechanic.
1936 – 9th Grade 1937 – 10th Grade
1938 – 11th Grade 1939 – 12th Grade
In the 1920 Census Ed was living with his parents and sister Charlotte. In 1930, three months after his father Marshall died, Ed and his younger siblings were living with grandfather Colmore Allen Craig and his wife Lora.
On May 22, 1931, he was taken to the Cornelia Orphans Home in New Albany. Orphanage records show that he was taken out on June 23, 1931, by grandmother, Lora Craig and later “adopted” by Annie Hines.
In my daddy’s recollection – Quote: “When Ed was 11-12 years old, he was taken from orphanage by Annie Hines. She was an old maid and Ed worked for her and he got to go to school. She was good to him. Ed learned how to quilt.”
As evidenced above in Ed’s high school pictures, he was well dressed, and he graduated from Jeffersonville High School in 1939.
