The course is designed to develop the skills required to plan and implement an early childhood program. Students
will apply their learning experiences about children through participation in a play-based preschool and possibly
an internship at an elementary school or an early childhood program for second year students. Career
opportunities related to childcare at the associate and baccalaureate degree level are explored. Students should
be reading at 8th grade level or above. Students must also be able to work in a group setting as well as
individually and must be willing to take on a leadership role with same-age classmates along with preschool age
children. Students in this class will be receiving instruction related to the basics of early childhood education, and
upon completion, will earn the Early Childhood Education Level 1 Credential. This is required in order to work in a
childcare setting or move on academically in this profession. Successful completion of this course is the basis for
moving into an Associate or Bachelor degree college program. ECE112-Guiding Young Children is the course for
which students may earn college credit for Early Childhood Education 1.
