 SOFT TECH
finally, a tech trend that felt like something the anthro customer could sink her teeth into. tech was everywhere but it felt the newest in a soft handed way. this could be a papery poplin move on or a cool girl’s addition to utility. dries had a ‘memory tech’ utility skirt with femme detailing that was a perfect highlight of this trend.
coating, so excited for this emerging idea. in the years past, coated fabrications were too forward and somewhat harsh. a wonderful find at the shows were all of the soft and feminine colors the mills were using to coat on top of classic utility fabrics. then adding a garment wash allowing for some wear away & seam abrasion softening the look at another level. we also saw this in uber high shine iterations as well as mellowed out worn away versions- both equally exciting. while shopping we loved seeing this as a faux leather alternative in easy moto silhouettes as well as easy 5 pocket pants. the mills had fun experimenting with this finishing technique by coating new fabrications as well. lace, eyelet and yarn dye versions are a few examples we thought had the anthro customer in mind.
relaxed tech with air flow rumple effects were a key base cloth and a fabric seen repeatedly on designer’s assortments. with a paper like hand and a broken ease of texture it was a great fabrication for maxi’s, wide leg pants and even flowy blouses.
leather and suede continued to be a standout in the forums. this year it looked most exciting in powdery finishes and faded brights. acidic colors also stood out at bon marché. there were lots of innovations in laser cut versions for high novelty.
