 PLAID MIX
plaid had a noticeably smaller presence both in shopping as well as in the forums. that said, it is still relevant and needed for the brand, just in a smaller way. we wanted to highlight a few ways we saw plaids that got us excited.
bold, preppy and high saturated plaids in classic patterns were a fun statement. mostly found in versatile textured base cloths with spring forward poppy color. rosie assoulin’s spring show highlighted this trend perfectly.
while doing a deep dive into paris vintage we found endless inspiration for coarse yarn madras mixes. we noticed exploded large scales with a rich and rustic feel, which would be great for later months to support summer.
at merci they had the most stunning assortment of airy bright colored gingham. easy 2-3 color combos in grid patterns floated as you walked by. this was assorted back to denim and was the most memorable plaid moment from the trip (please reach out if you would like photos). the brand mii was highlighted in this particular set up but we continued to see this idea throughout europe as we shopped in other cities.
as much fun as it is to talk about bold and bright colors, the neutral plaids were a great layer to all the pattern and texture mixing we were seeing. this super approachable concept is by no means new and emerging but was clearly an important piece of the puzzle for the season.
