Hurricane shades were known in early local inventories as cylindres. Rolled bottom rim. See Bacot, Nineteenth Century Lighting, pp. 64-65, where the author suggests the larger the central bulge the later the shade. He also suggesst Pittsburg as the site of manufacture.
