Fournier apprenticed to the Lepaute clockmaking firm in Paris. When he was sent to install a large clock at the St. Louis Hotel about 1841, he decided to remain in the city andeh established himself as a clockmaker, first on Toulouse St., and then on Royal Street. See J.M. Kinabrew, "Stanislaus Fournier, New Orleans Clock and Watch Maker",National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors Bulletin, April 1997, pp. 189-192.
Value Support
Tall clocks by Fournier are uncommon and few have appeared on the market in the past twenty years. Comparables 1-3 represent the range of sale prices since 2005. It should be noted that Comparable 2 represents the 3rd sale of that specific clock in three years, each time with a significant drop in price (first sale was at over $12,000); this suggests that there was something about the clock (condition perhaps) that was less desirable.
