American silver cake baskets have typically realized $250- $1200 at auction since 2011. The comparables analyzed show sales of silver cake baskets by known American makers. The example is very similar to a Terfluch & Kuchlor cake basket that realized $13,500 at auction in 2011. With New Orelans silver by Himmel, and other known New Orleans silversmiths, bringing a premium, this cake basket can be expected to realize above average in the current market, although it is not likely to bring as high a price as the 2011 Terfluch & Kuchlor cake basket, which was an anomaly, even in a strong silver market. The example cake basket does not have the chased fruit in the bottom of the basket, although details are very similar.
