 Honoring a Champ
An integral member of the community for more than four decades, Joe Montero’s ’76 untimely passing in December 2017 left Priory with a champ-sized hole. An admired teacher, coach and colleague, he was well-known for his boisterous personality and ability to connect with students, including always affectionately calling them “champ.”
In honor of Montero, the Class of 2018 dedicated their Senior Gift to the Joseph B. Montero,
Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund in support of future generations receiving a Priory education. Recognizing their ability to philanthropically support something larger than themselves and honor their beloved Mr. Montero’s legacy, the seniors collectively donated nearly $1,300 by the conclusion of the three-week campaign.
Posthumously, the recently renovated pool was also dedicated to the “Champ” and named the Joe Montero Aquatic Center in his honor.
