  Our Eyes
by Maggie Pollard
A whirlpool, spinning into a black hole fringed thickly, ebony or gold.
Some are marble, laced with blue
filled with emotion, saying I love you. A porthole into someone’s mind
and when they are opened you will find a sea of trees, maybe evergreen
or under the ocean in a submarine.
Or maybe a feast ofchocolate cake, velvety enough to give a stomach ache. But if you blink for just a second
they call you in with a small beckon. And in that moment offrivolity, our eyes show our human qualities.
