      The Flight
by Julianne Lempert
    68
Clouds infused with pink Stretch out over the world
A swirling sphere of color
In the center, stands a girl
Her dreams are like the orange Glowing, gleaming bright
But her last chance of freedom Drifts off into the night
The silence isn’t alarming In fact it’s meant to be Just like that girl
That girl who is me
I feel small, small as ever
Yet peaceful and free
The gaping space between us That hurts you less than me
The sky reaches out her arms
And works into my skin
Miraculous thoughts circle me
Never wondering what could have been My soul feasts on color
My heart feeds on light
The purple shines within me Then back onto its flight
