CAD Classes
A computer class that involves making designer chocolate? An
art class that teaches Design Thinking? Priory’s CAD or Computer Assisted Design classes defy easy categorization, but the students flocking to them don’t seem to mind. An exciting collaboration between the Computer Science and Fine Arts departments that’s even caught the attention of other school districts, CAD 1 and 2 allow students to dream up and create everything from original tech gadgets to edible gummies to metalwork using 3-D printing, mold- making, and hands-on fabrication. Creators Christine Hemiup and
Reed Sullivan designed the class
to incorporate industrial-grade
software and mimic real design firm
experience, and they’ve been thrilled with the results. “Students come back and tell us, ‘I’m getting a job CAD-ing for this company or that company,’ or ‘I got a summer internship,’” says Ms. Hemiup. “One student texted me to say he’s now selling his stuff online. It’s just awesome.”
