school's out, so

Priorystudentsspent let'sgettowork this summer teaching,
singing, and traveling
the world.
The theme of this summer seemed to be the
oft-repeated Priory adage, “Serve a world in need of your gifts.” Panthers found ways to serve the world using their various gifts in places ranging from here in Portola Valley to the Daraja Academy in Kenya. Panthers journeyed to the plains of Africa to further their knowledge about life sciences and to meet the girls of the Daraja Academy with whom many trip members are still in contact. In addition, members of the Priory choir traveled to Europe to sing in Budapest, Prague and Vienna at various cathedrals. Even Panthers here at home heard the call to service and worked in our own community as Priory once again hosted eighth grade students from the Peninsula Bridge Program to further their excellence in education.
Alice Alvarez (12) was a TA at the Bridge Program this year, and loved helping local kids in her community learn. She explained, “This summer I had

the chance to work for the Bridge Program in the art classroom. When I started working I wasn't sure what to expect. I found out that the Bridge students were kind, funny, creative kids that wanted an opportunity like Bridge to learn and make friends while doing it. In the art class, they made crazy, funny tape sculptures like a turtle-duck, drew beautiful self portraits and cut out cool stencils.”
David Theis (12) was the official photographer for the choir's Europe trip, he shared “The choir trip was a majestic journey through the foreign lands of Hungary and the Czech Republic. Through friendships and camaraderie, the unique team of vocalists and their media guru provided endless hours of entrainment. The greatest part was the final night in Budapest, when we looked over the glistening lights of the city, forming an ever lasting imprint on our lives,” he remembered, summarizing the impact this summer had all over the world.
