P. 129

To the Class of 2014:
I began my teaching career in 1964 so, this is my fiftieth year involved in the world of education, either on the collegiate level or on the high school level. In all of those years I have learned that no two graduating classes are the same. There may be similarities of various kinds, of course, but each class leaves its own personal stamp behind to be remembered by those who follow.
The class of 2014 has provided outstanding leadership in every facet of Priory life because of its involvement and commitment from freshman year to the present. Outstanding academic achievement has earned placement in many of the finest colleges and universities in the country and has also produced record scholarship awards. The drama department has been gifted by the talent of so many members of the class whose commitment to producing performances at the highest level has been acknowledged by theatregoers in packing the Rothrock Performance Center for nearly every event. In the area of Athletics the Priory athletes have proven themselves to be formidable opponents in every sport, winning the respect of every team which challenges them on the fields or on the courts. Once again, it has been the seniors whose leadership and good sportsmanship have been the model for those who will step up to fill their shoes in the future. You have filled our lives with music in our concerts, with H-Block activities, with awesome robots, and so much more.
May you always remember these years and the events which have helped form you as you prepare for the next step – and the next step – and the next. Remember the wonderful times and the challenges that demanded much of you. It is all part of the journey.
And remember a monk who was called out of this life in this, your senior year. He was a part of your class in so many ways as he was always ready with a kind word and a bit of wisdom, and he was always your cheerleader. Brother Edward loved the class of 2014. May he rest in the loving arms of his Lord.
Father Martin
Dear Class of 2014,
letters for
the seniors
The reality about this letter that I am writing right now is that I am never sure when you are going to read it – when you get your book, over the summer, at college, or never. I do know that it is not the most important part of the yearbook – you are – because it is your book and your year of amazing memories and events – and that is where the focus should be.
Your years at the Priory and especially this last one should provide you with so many great memories of classmates, teachers, staff, residential faculty, administrators, kitchen staff and the monks. All of us have been here because of you – this is where you have grown up, some since the age of eleven, and now as seniors you look back with a feeling of “Where did those years go?” and huge anticipation for college or whatever the future holds for you.
I am writing this letter two weeks before Christmas, “the weather outside is frightful but inside it is so delightful”, final exams are right around the corner and some of you have already received college acceptances – YAHOO! The first part of this year has once again moved faster than a speeding bullet and there is no evidence that it will slow down between now and June. So when you look back on your years at the Priory, especially this senior year I hope you can honestly say “that Senior year really rocked.”
Remember the Priory – it is home to our monks, to campus families and their children, and our boarding students and they all contribute to a place that feels like home. During your years here something special was happening – hopefully you sensed it in the peace and purpose of the campus. The Priory is always here for you -- may you look back on your time with fondness and remember you did show huge amounts of Pack Pride.
The Priory always has been and will continue to be a school where our values are timeless, our community is real and our vision is far reaching!
Enjoy every page of your yearbook, thanks to your classmates who spent many hours creating and editing the final draft, to the editors and moderator Mrs. Scott for capturing your final year in amazing fashion – and if you really do read this letter – no matter when – let me know and I will send you five bucks.
Come back to visit often and spread the spirit and Benedictine values of the Priory wherever you go.
Go Panthers!
