Two Gifts with a Single Snip!
Middle School Theology teacher Molly Buccola has always had long, blonde hair—but has always thought about getting a buzz cut. When the Priory’s annual holiday food and funds drive began last semester, it seemed like a good time to finally do it, she said.
It is a tradition for a faculty member (male until this year)
to shave his head if the campus community exceeds its goal for charity. Since she planned to get
the haircut anyway, and donate her mane to “Locks of Love”, (where it will be made into a wig for a cancer patient) the timing seemed perfect— she could inspire additional giving and support someone facing a difficult course of medical treatment.
Initially, many of her students were uneasy with the idea of a radical change, she said, but she helped them understand that it was a small loss. “Hair is just hair. It will grow back,” she told them.
