The opportunity to explore the possibilities of telecommunica- tions using state-of-the-art tools is what Ted Larson most enjoyed in his work at Hewlett Packard, he told student Garrett Bennicas. Ted has since left HP to start his own business

NASA Ames Research Center provides year-long internships to promising students. Alexandra Gray worked in the Biocomputation Center using a com- puter program called ROSS — Reconstruction of Serial Sections — to help build a model of nerve cells in the inner ear.
Getting to see how three-dimensional image model- ing works is a unique opportunity. However, the actual work is tedious and often boring. I spent a lot of time hand tracing the outlines of the cells because the computer can’t read contrast (from an electron microscopic photo) very well... The final product is the result of several people’s work. I’ve had the chance to try out the other work involved, and also to see how the person who supervises the project pulls it all together.
