the amazing race
by Max Habeck and Jack Smith
Crunch. The sound of the underside of a pair of worn-out sneakers on gravel. You’re almost there; almost at the end of the race. You pick up the pace, but someone is still ahead of you. You reach to find the intangible power inside of you, longing for the boost of energy that will bring you to the finish line. You can’t lose this one. Suddenly, you somehow conjure up that power and take first place. Run, run, don't look back. You can finally meet the finish line first. Cross country. Exhilarating. Exciting. Breathtaking...literally. Cross country is an amazing sport where you run long distance races on a variety of terrains such as gravel
and dirt trails and vast woodlands. It is quite similar to other types of races, but cross country is unique in its own ways. According to one Priory student, there is a distinct sense of “team comradery” accompanied with the sport. Additionally, Eva El- Fishawy (9) said that she enjoys “making new friends and getting in shape”. Finally, Joshua Gutow (11) said his favorite part is the “kicks at the end of the race” which means sprinting to get ahead right near the finish line. Overall, cross country is an awesome sport that many enjoy. Hope to see you running next year!
